Minimum of a Master's degree in Asian American Studies or a related field required. PhD preferred.

Position Summary:

Responsible for teaching Asian Am 150: Literature and Cultures of Asian Americans and/or 540: Special Topics (Hmong American Studies topic preferred) for Fall 2017.

Additional Information:

Asian Am 150 course description: This course traces the role of Asia and Asians in American literature and culture, from the Chinese and Japanese cultural influences that helped shape literary modernism to the rise of a distinctive culture produced by Asian immigrants to America and their descendants.

Asian Am 540 course description: Social science themes in Asian American studies. Topics may include the family, economics, poverty, inter-racial conflicts and cooperation, South Asian Americans. Preference will be given to topics in Hmong American Studies.

Past subjects taught: Hmong American Studies, Education and Career Development of Hmong Americans, Exploring Hmong American Experiences Through Service Learning, Hmong American Politics in a Global Context, Southeast Asian Students in U.S. Schools, Psychology of Hmong Americans, Asian American Activism, Classic Hollywood and Asian American Representations, Sociological Survey of Current Research of Asians in the United States, Asian American Dimension of U.S. State Formation and Policymaking; etc. Please see our website at www.asianamerican.wisc.edu for a list of courses taught.

These courses will count for core requirement in the Asian American Studies certificate.

There is a possibility this position can be extended in subsequent semester to teach one or more of course(s) listed on this PVL, or similar courses within the department. This position may become renewable if there is a need for an ongoing appointment.
