Degree and area of specialization:

BS/BA in a biological science or related field required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Must have worked or interned in a research laboratory. Experience in the handling and manipulation of nonhuman primates, such as rhesus macaques and/or marmosets, and an ability to obtain venous blood samples from nonhuman primates preferred, and will be acquired.

Excellent verbal and written skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint are required. Prior experience with web-based databases preferred. Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team. Candidate should have an understanding of research principles and regulations, be detail oriented, and possess excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills.

License or Certificate:

BL2+ and radiation safety certification will be acquired upon hire.

Position Summary:

The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) is one of seven federally supported National Primate Research Centers and the only one in the Midwest. WNPRC's mission is to increase the understanding of basic primate biology and to improve human health and quality of life through research. To accomplish this, the WNPRC helps discover treatments, preventions and cures for human disease; generates new knowledge of primate biology, from the molecular and whole animal levels to the understanding of primate ecosystems; facilitates research progress by providing expertise, resources and training to scientists worldwide; and collects primate information and disseminates to the research community and to the public. Based in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education (OVCRGE) of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison), the WNPRC has strong long-established research and teaching links to the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), the College of Letters and Science (L&S), the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), and the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM).

A position is available at the WNPRC in the laboratory of Dr. Jon Levine. The successful applicant will provide technical support to and participate in a research program focused on the mechanisms by which androgen and estrogen may program the pathophysiological features of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Additional Information:

-Must be TB negative.
-Successful candidate will be required to provide written documentation to University Health Services showing one of the following: 1) receipt of measles vaccination; 2) laboratory evidence of immunity to measles; or 3) laboratory confirmation of measles disease. Individuals without the aforementioned documentation will need to have a measles titer within the first week of employment. Depending on the results of the blood test, employee may need to be immunized.
-Allergies to animals must be controlled by medication.
-Must possess a valid driver's license that meets the standards of UW Risk Management in order to operate WNPRC vehicles.
