Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree required, preferably with focus on biological or social science, health care or related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

-At least 1 year of research experience with research methods in clinical/human subjects settings required.
-Experience with Institutional Review Board for human subjects research, specifically, and with the regulatory climate of clinical research preferred.

Position Summary:

The Research Specialist will join the sleep research group at the Wisconsin Institute for Sleep and Consciousness located adjacent to the Department of Psychiatry. The successful candidate will be involved in conducting research on the role sleep plays in daytime cognitive and emotional function in children. The candidate is responsible for an array of duties associated with the research including, but not limited to, all aspects of data collection. This will mostly include data collection during the day, but may also require occasionally conducting overnight sleep studies.

Knowledge/Skills Required:
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-Demonstrated proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database management.
-Detail oriented with strong organizational and management skills are critical.
-Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well with other study staffs, physicians, parents and children.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a group.
-Ability to take responsibility to meet deadlines and initiate tasks without close supervision.
-Ability to balance and prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively.
-Ability to learn and recognize various stages of sleep.

Knowledge/Skills Preferred:
-Proficiency in MatLab.

This position requires availability to work occasional overnights to conduct sleep studies.

A caregiver background check will be conducted.

Title prefix and salary will be dependent on relevant years of experience.
