Position Summary:

The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. The School seeks scholars and educators in ethnomusicology, global music studies, popular music studies, jazz studies, music sociology, sound studies, and other emerging music interdisciplines to complement and diversify our current course offerings in European/American music for both majors and non-majors, and to help reshape the undergraduate music curriculum more generally. Appointment start date will be August 20, 2018. Appointment will be full time for the nine-month academic year. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Additional Information:

The Mead Witter School of Music, located within the College of Letters & Science, serves over 300 majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels offering the B.A., B.S., B.M., M.A., M.M., D.M.A., and Ph.D. degrees and serves hundreds of non-majors through multiple ensembles and course offerings. Along with the UW-Madison at large, the School of Music is committed to creating a diverse, collegial, and inclusive educational, scholarly, and performance community of faculty, staff, and students and to embody through our teaching and research the aims of the Wisconsin Idea. The School seeks candidates who identify with groups currently underrepresented within Schools of Music and academe at large. In October of 2016, the School broke ground on the Hamel Music Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed as a gateway for arts on campus. This new space will contain a large concert hall, a recital hall, lobby, and a large rehearsal space for use by students, faculty, and staff and will contribute to the School's on-going engagement with audiences on and off campus.

The UW-Madison has longstanding strengths in world languages and has eight area studies centers, six of which are National Resource Centers, as well as programs in African American Studies, Asian American Studies, American Indian Studies, and Chican@/Latin@Studies.
