Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in law, political science/government, public policy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) or related field preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

- At least 5 years professional work experience in federal government affairs, public policy, or a
related field
- A demonstrated understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory processes
- Extensive background in higher education, federal research funding and related policies
- A proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with federal agency officials
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- The ability to exercise independent judgment, decision-making and confidentiality, all with limited supervision. Must be self-motivated.

Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applicants to apply for the Associate Director of Federal Relations position, based in Washington, DC. The Associate Director of Federal Relations will report directly to the Director for Federal Relations and will monitor and analyze pending and proposed legislation that could affect the campus, including research funding, as well as communicate the University's position on legislation and regulations that affect the university. He/she will also advise and update faculty on research regulations and policy changes.

Additional Information:

- This position will be located in Washington D.C. and require occasional travel to Madison, WI.
- This position reports to the Director of Federal Relations (a position also located in Washington D.C.) and will also work closely with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education.
