Degree and area of specialization:

Master's degree required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

- 7 or more years of administrative professional experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Must have a working knowledge of commercial agriculture, preferably gained from experience or a farming background, and professional experience beyond secondary degree.
- Knowledge in all aspects to the management functions typically performed by farm managers: understanding of accounting, finance, marketing, taxes, etc.
- Familiarity with farm financial management, recordkeeping and analysis, and business planning a must.
- Potential and interest in preparing successful grant proposals to government agencies, initiating collaborative projects with CDP and UW-Extension faculty and staff.
- Strong analytical skills and extensive knowledge in the development and usage of computer-based analytical tools. Experience with AgFA and/or FINPACK is highly desirable.
- Knowledgeable and proficient in QuickBooks or equivalent.
- Extensive knowledge in identifying local & state needs and developing, and evaluating educational programs to address those needs.

Position Summary:

The University of Wisconsin Center for Dairy Profitability (CDP) is a multi-campus Extension unit with faculty and staff at UW-Madison, UW-Extension, UW-Platteville, and UW-River Falls. The CDP develops and delivers effective interdisciplinary education and applied research to dairy farms and dairy industry service providers resulting in sustainable, profitable decisions, and a healthy and progressive dairy industry in Wisconsin. Informed management decisions are a key to dairy farming's economic success. The CDP's emphasis is on educational programs and outreach that enhance the management skills and decision-making abilities of dairy producers and others who assist them in making management decisions. It is the vision of the CDP to be the preeminent academic institution empowering farm managers toward profitable decisions.

The Outreach Program Manager will serve as Associate Director of the CDP. This full-time position reports to the Director of the CDP, and is responsible for the overall direction, oversight and strategic development of all CDP initiatives and activities, hiring, administration and general operations in consultation with the Director. This position is also responsible for management and outreach for the Center's UW Extension (UWEX) activities.

The Associate Director will be responsible for the development and coordination of an outstanding UW-Extension outreach program primarily focusing on farm financial management and analysis. Current programs include: Farming your Finances, Heart of the Farm-Women in Agriculture program, Management Assessment Center, Farm Succession and Human Resource Management.
