Degree and area of specialization:

A Bachelor's degree is required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of 1 year of professional experience (may include undergraduate or graduate level internship/practicum experience) in career services, academic advising, student services, alumni relations, human resources, recruitment, or related field.

-Knowledge of the job market and hiring trends within the fields of business and entrepreneurship, or associated employment industries.
-Ability to quickly build rapport with others, be curious via open-ended questions, and utilize activing listening skills.
-Multicultural awareness and competence; ability to work in a diverse environment and serve students from a wide variety of backgrounds.
-Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and facilitate events and programs.
-Ability to research, properly evaluate information, and prepare concise, well-organized content for the web and for general dissemination to students.
-Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals in a diplomatic and professional manner, including both strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to anticipate problems and take necessary action to eliminate or mitigate potential negative effects.
-Ability to be flexible in working independently as well as collaboratively with co-workers, students, academic advisors, faculty, employers and alumni to achieve defined goals.
-Ability to work a flexible schedule, attending evening and/or weekend events as needed; some evening and weekend hours are required to meet the needs of our students.
-Understanding of a liberal arts education and its value in the world of work.

Position Summary:

The role of the Career & Internship Specialist specifically for the Career Community of L&S Badgers in Business & Entrepreneurship is four-fold: 1) to build content and expertise for L&S students interested in careers and internships in business and entrepreneurship; 2) to meet with students one-on-one and in group advising formats; 3) to work cross-functionally within SuccessWorks, and with campus partners, to coordinate programs and events that bring together students, alumni, and employers; and 4) to supervise student paraprofessionals.

The Career & Internship Specialist reports to the Director of Career Advising and Communities, within the same unit as advising staff (professional advisors and graduate level interns), alumni and department relations. As a member of the career advising team, this position responds to student needs, facilitates appropriate and timely service delivery (in person and virtual); conducts individual advising; plans and presents programs and workshops; coordinates events and activities; utilizes career technologies; develops print and virtual resources; and has direct contact with students on a daily basis in a variety of settings.
