Minimum $60,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Degree and area of specialization:

Master's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related field required. Ph.D. preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of 5 years of direct experience in bioinformatics is required. Supervisory and fiscal management experience is desirable. The ability to communicate well and build working relationships with a diverse group of researchers is essential.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- The ability to operate independently and take initiative.
- Fluency with reproducible computational research norms and practices.
- Familiarity with sequence database analysis utilizing a variety of software programs.
- Experience working with 16S rRNA gene based analysis pipelines.
- Experience with training researchers on how to use computational tools.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills.

Position Summary:

The Microbiome Hub is a joint venture between the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID) and the UW-Madison Biotechnology Center (UWBC) that leverages UWBC's expertise in sequencing and bioinformatics and WID's strength in data storage and management. The Microbiome Hub will provide the means for researchers in diverse fields, with no training in microbiology or bioinformatics, to routinely examine the microbiome in their studies.

Under the direction of Principal Investigator Dr. Jo Handelsman and Co-Principal Investigator Dr. Michael Sussman, the Microbiome Hub Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Hub, independently providing researchers with consultation and collaboration, and building the Hub's capacity as a campus resource.
