Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, business, or higher education administration preferred. Bachelor's degree in other fields will be considered if applicant has at least two years of substantial involvement in research or sponsored programs administration or accounting either in a sponsored or recipient organization or the equivalent in a self-funding organization.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Strong candidates will have one or more years of experience in research grant administration.
* Understanding of National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal regulations as well as university policies, procedures and guidelines pertaining to grants management.
* Experience in financial management of grants in medical, research, or educational setting highly desired.

Position Summary:

The Research Grants Administrator position is responsible for assisting faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students through the various stages of funding in an effort to maintain and build on the vibrant and expanding research portfolio of the Department of Integrative Biology. This position facilitates the development of proposals and pre-proposals and coordinates post award set-up, management, and closeout. Proposals may include grant applications, fellowship applications, contract proposals, subcontracts, progress and final reports. The Research Grants Administrator handles compliance issues and all funding-related questions. This position requires highly effective communication, organizational, and motivational skills. The Research Grants Administrator communicates frequently with various UW-Madison offices (e.g., Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP), Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education (VCRGE), Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA), College of Letters and Science (L&S), Purchasing Services, Risk Management and Property Control), as well as organizations outside the university (funding agency personnel, external vendors, banking institutions, etc.).
