Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the UW Department of Family Medicine and Community Health Senior Accountant this position serves as a Financial Specialist-Senior for the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) with responsibility for management of the funding for UW payroll for all DFMCH physicians and employees.

DFMCH currently has over 400 UW faculty and staff as well as over 300 volunteer faculty and manages clinics and programs in several statewide operational areas including DFMCH Central Administration, Madison Campus Residency program, pre-doctoral program, and four Dane County clinic sites in Belleville, Northeast, Verona, and Wingra. DFMCH has an annual operating budget of approximately $109M and includes 36 cost centers and over 175 University accounts. Departmental revenues are generated from a variety of sources including University of Wisconsin Medical Foundation (UWMF) clinical income, extramural research, direct support from the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) and the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) and St. Mary's and Meriter Hospitals, revenue producing accounts, education accounts, graduate school accounts, and contributions to UW. The operations of the departments are complex due to the interrelated activities with the UWSMPH, UWMF, and UWHC.

The Financial Specialist - Senior position performs duties in the areas of UW payroll funding, transaction processing, and management of UW Funds ensure that financial transactions are recorded in an efficient and accurate manner that provides consistency and integrity for management and financial reporting.

The position functions with a great degree of independence in performing the duties and responsibilities and is required to have excellent interpersonal skills as well as an understanding of the structure, policies, procedures, and automated financial management systems of the UW. The candidate is expected to model a high degree of professionalism, which includes demonstrating honesty, integrity, accountability, and a commitment to altruism in all work interactions and responsibilities.

Additional Requirements:

-Bachelor's degree preferred.
-Knowledge of fiscal practices and procedures.
-Knowledge of the University of Wisconsin Shared Financial System, especially ability to access information contained in the data mart through use of Wisconsin Data Mart (WISDM), Human Resources System (HRS), Accounting Data Warehouse (ADW), and Finance/Accounting Snapshot Tool (FAST) is strongly preferred.
-Experience performing financial operations using a computerized accounting/budgeting software platform.
-Experience in understanding the components and structure of automated accounting and financial management systems.

Schedule Comment:

The position will be part time, between 40-60% FTE. Regular hours will be scheduled between 7:45 and 4:30.
