Degree and area of specialization:

A bachelor's degree in Agronomy or Horticulture Science or 10-15 years of professional experience in these areas is highly preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Previous successful building maintenance management experience and supervision is required.
In addition, highly qualified applicants will possess: Knowledge of the principles of supervision and effective skills in supervising staff of skilled and semi-skilled employees; Ability to interpret collective bargaining and other work agreements; Ability to plan, prioritize, schedule and supervise multiple jobs; Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, repair and installation of building mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as preventative maintenance; Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in building construction and remodeling; Knowledge of health and safety codes applicable to buildings and grounds; Effective public relations and oral and written communication skills and techniques for maintaining productive working relationships; Administrative management skills including budgeting and planning, cost analysis, purchasing, materials management and resource allocation; Knowledge of federal, state, and municipal buildings and grounds regulations and codes; Knowledge of state and University procurement rules and regulations; Knowledge of NCAA, Big Ten, WCHA, WIAA, and NFL facilities and ground rules and regulations; Experience with records and report systems; and the ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required by events.

Incumbent must possess and have the ability maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license and a motor vehicle record that meets UW Risk Management Standards to drive State of Wisconsin owned vehicles.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Facilities the Building & Grounds Superintendent will be responsible for the maintenance of buildings and playing surfaces for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. The incumbent will: Supervise a Building & Grounds Supervisor and skilled, semi-skilled maintenance, facility repair and labor staff; Oversee the playing and practice areas for all natural turf and ice areas. Maintain all equipment necessary for maintenance and ice preparation, and natural turf maintenance; Oversee building maintenance operations at Goodman Diamond Softball Complex and the McClimon Track Complex; Coordinate conversions at the Kohl Center, UW Fieldhouse and other athletic department facilities; and coordinate snow handling/removal and ice treatment at all athletic department facilities.
