Job Summary:

The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) serves as the public, environmental and occupational health laboratory for the State of Wisconsin. This position independently provides a wide variety of program support to administrative, supervisory, laboratory and support services for the DNR Drinking and ground water program and the general population at the Agriculture Drive laboratories of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH). Primary responsibilities include: providing a broad range of knowledge regarding water sampling and testing kits to effectively meet the needs of customers; look up results for customers; interpret results and make decisions that directly affect the general public based upon the rules and policies mandated by the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act Program (SDWA) and the WDNR; LIMS support (laboratory information management system); a wide range of other duties as needed, including: water testing kit production for the SDWA/DNR program and kit production for the general population as well as other agencies, mailing and shipping water testing kits, copying, scanning, faxing and filing. This position's main duty will be to provide detailed information regarding sample testing and receipt conditions for any given sample, and enter this information into the data management system. Responsibilities include entering and verifying sample information in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This position will also query the database for sample information and status for federal and state and agencies (especially the WI Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) and Department of Health Services (WDHS), universities and private homeowners. The position will provide data and information from the LIMS to WSLH analysts and other employees. This person also contacts customers in cases of missing information and provides feedback to customers on data. The position requires effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit and organization. This position works under general supervision and reports to the Shipping and Mailing supervisor.

The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing their daily work including the following: demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisors, co-workers and all external customers; consistently model appropriate behaviors and assist other staff in developing effective relationships; Ability to multi-task and work effectively with distractions is crucial; Provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement in a manner that is supportive of the State Laboratory of Hygiene and its mission; Use data collection tools as appropriate; Use effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit; Present ideas, carry out assignments and provide information as required; Participate in continuous learning through professional development activities.
Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. and sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Normal working hours for this position are Monday through Friday 7:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., however other schedules may exist as it fits with the workflow.
