Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelors degree (required) in the humanities, arts, communication, or related professional field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Two to five years (preferred) experience in planning, staffing, managing, and marketing events and programs of the highest professional level--such as public conferences and lecture series. Also preferred: experience writing copy and press releases; working with designers and printers; managing websites and social media profiles.

Position Summary:

This position has two key areas, and the successful applicant will both enjoy and have experience working in each area. They will be responsible for all aspects of the Center for the Humanities' roster of public lectures and events, and they will oversee publicity and marketing of these events and other Center for the Humanities programs through the Center's website, social media accounts, press releases, direct outreach, and other mechanisms.

The applicant must enjoy working in a collaborative, dynamic, and flexible workplace, while also maintaining a professional and service-oriented demeanor. They must be organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously, both those with long- and short-term deadlines. They must be comfortable working in both academic and non-academic settings and with diverse communities; possess excellent written and spoken communication skills; have familiarity with A/V systems and presentation software; and represent the values and mission of the Center for the Humanities at events and in the public. Applicants must be available to attend all of the Center's events, including evening events (10-15 each academic year, almost entirely between September and May). Experience with fundraising and development is also preferred.

This is a position with periods of intensity (typically from September to November, and February to early-May) during which there may be several events in a week, and periods of relative quiet, during which there will be very few events, allowing the Manager to focus on long-term publicity projects, planning, strategy, and program-evaluation. Because it is a 50% position, applicants must be adept at managing their time, prioritizing responsibilities, and delegating tasks to student workers as necessary, as well as using the Center's project management software to create clear lines of communication and access to event information during the 20 hours per week they are not in the office.
