Degree and area of specialization:

BA or BS required in Public Policy, Public Health, Health Sciences or related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Preferred qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to design and implement tobacco prevention and control policies to improve population health.

Evidence of collaborative work with stakeholders in public health.

Exceptional interpersonal skills, including ability to clearly articulate ideas and facilitate discussion with diverse audiences.

Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities and deadlines.

Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

Skill in identifying epidemiological, economic and social trends with implications for the health status of the population and the ability to translate community assessment data into statewide tobacco prevention and control programs.

Advanced level of knowledge and skill in strategic and operational public health policy planning, program implementation and evaluation and skill in data management.

Skill in grant writing and justifying budget requests.

Advanced level of skill in presenting ideas and information orally and in writing in a clear, concise and persuasive manner.

Ability to provide leadership and guide activities of individual groups.

Position Summary:

The Tobacco Prevention and Control Policy and Technical Assistance Coordinator position supports the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPCP) at the Department of Health Services (DHS) and will work collaboratively with tobacco prevention and control partners to identify and coordinate educational advocacy strategies and tactics and provide leadership to build community capacity to engage in research based public health change both at the state and local level. The position will also serve as training and technical assistance provider for policy, systems and built environment strategies. The Policy Coordinator will answer policy related inquiries, view policy documents and request information from DHS Legal Office and national partners such as the Tobacco Legal Consortium, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, and Americans for Non-Smokers Rights.
