Job Summary:

This position provides advanced support work in the Public Services department of Memorial Library and is responsible for the general management of the library during night and weekend hours. This position oversees the security and general functioning of the library, responding to security and emergency situations and managing circulation services, and exercising good judgement in the application of policies and procedures.

This position also provides information services, assists in the planning and implementation of operational policies and procedures and trains, schedules and oversees student hourly employees. This position requires a high degree of organization, ability to multi-task, ability to work independently on multiple projects, and a focus on details. This individual must work effectively as a team member and be comfortable with some task ambiguity, as work demands fluctuate.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following skills and experiences:

Required
- Ability to analyze problems and suggest solutions
- Ability to demonstrate strong customer service skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and with a team
- Ability to be flexible, pay close attention to detail and respond well to multiple competing demands
- Knowledge of basic computer skills (including knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications)

Preferred
- Experience working in a library setting
- Experience with or knowledge of circulation functions (checkout, return, recall, hold, etc)
- Experience overseeing or directing the work of staff
- Experience in planning, developing, and application of policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift 50 pounds
- Ability to work on a computer for 6+ hours
- Ability to move around a large building with or without an accommodation

Schedule Comment:

This is a full-time position with the following scheduled hours:

Wednesday: 4pm - Midnight
Thursday: 4pm - Midnight
Friday: 4pm - 10pm

This position may substute for other staff on the weekends to meet the needs of the unit.

Scheduling of the additional 18 hours are negotiable depending on unit needs.
