Depending on Qualifications

Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
Degrees in disciplines relevant to project/portfolio management or in areas within the portfolio scope are preferred (e.g., project management, operations management, management, business administration, human resources, finance).

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

-- Minimum of 7 years progressively responsible experience in project management with 3 years experience in portfolio management;
-- Experience coordinating a variety of portfolio tasks to achieve desired outcomes, such as prioritizing and planning work activities, setting appropriate deadlines to complete activities accordingly, identifying and managing risk, monitoring and controlling budget, and effectively managing time, resources, and relationships;
-- Experience designing and implementing portfolio prioritization processes developed in conjunction with stakeholders and influencers
-- Knowledge of and experience using portfolio management tools, techniques and software;
-- Proven leadership skills in complex organizations, exemplified in such activities as organizational change management, decentralized decision-making, portfolio/project prioritization, building consensus, forming and sustaining highly effective teams, and developing commitment in achieving the goals and objectives of portfolios;
-- Excellent communication as demonstrated through planning, collaboration across the organization, and delivery, resulting in satisfied stakeholders and sponsors;
-- Commitment to diversity and inclusion, as evidenced by success working with and leveraging the talents of diverse project teams.

License or Certificate:

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or equivalent professional certificate in project management, preferred.

Position Summary:

This is an expert level position responsible for managing the full life-cycle of large, complex and visible portfolios and projects across the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The incumbent will report to the Director of the Office of Strategic Consulting. OSC is a campus-wide resource for process improvement, strategic planning, project management; and connecting people and initiatives for the purpose of maximizing resources, stimulating innovation, and sharing best practices. The position works closely with senior University management. The incumbent will join the Office of Strategic Consulting, recently formed by the merger of the former offices of Quality Improvement and Administrative Process Redesign, that includes ten internal consultants, three administrative staff, and a Director.
