Degree and area of specialization:

B.A. Journalism, Communications, English or related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum 1+ years of demonstrated ability to:
* Write, edit and proofread accurately.
* Propose, research, write and edit stories on complex topics.
* Engage audiences through effective storytelling and interesting leads.
* Follow Associated Press Style.
* Create newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, briefs, flyers, publications and displays in digital and print formats.
* Communicate through various media platforms, such as video, photography, social media, forums, wikis and blogging.
* Understand the needs of internal customers and colleagues and work with them to develop effective communications strategies and vehicles.
* Work collaboratively with web developers, designers, photographers and other professionals to plan and execute projects.
* Use common office software applications such as Word, Outlook, Adobe, PowerPoint, Facebook, Twitter; familiarity with design tools such as Photoshop and InDesign desirable.
* Learn how to use, add content and update information on websites, electronic calendars, email distribution and event planning software, as well as to use media monitoring, email distribution applications and other types of communications tools.
* Respond to media inquiries and pitch stories to reporters and editors.

Position Summary:

The Wisconsin Center for Education Research is one of the first, largest and most productive university-based education research centers in the world. WCER provides a nurturing environment for scholars to conduct basic and applied education research. It serves as the research home for grant-funded centers, projects, staff and graduate students to investigate a wide variety of topics in education.

Managing communications projects for WCER requires effective interpersonal and diplomatic skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with faculty, academic and classified staff. The candidate must be able to exercise sound judgment, suggest ideas and work with colleagues on a broad range of projects.

This position is responsible for managing, developing and writing compelling content for internal and external audiences, and sharing news stories and other web content across multiple platforms, including newsletters, email distribution lists, videos, social media, print, campus publications, external news media and other outlets.

The Wisconsin Center for Education Research is seeking an energetic, engaging and talented communicator with 1+ years of demonstrated professional communications experience to join our department.

This individual will contribute to efforts to boost awareness, share information and build good will among our key internal and external audiences. Qualified candidates will possess exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal skills, as well as initiative, attention to detail and the ability to work independently or within teams to solve problems and help colleagues meet their goals. .

Prior experience communicating about scientific, educational or technical subject matter is desirable, as is photography and video production experience.

This position requires excellent interpersonal, time management, customer service and organizational skills.
