Degree and area of specialization:

MD, DO, or equivalent is required. Additional training in acute care surgery including trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Candidate is required to be board eligible or board certified in General Surgery.

Applicants should have a history of successful clinical program development and a demonstrated track record of scholarship. Candidates must possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. Both tenure and non-tenure tracks are available within the School of Medicine and Public Health. Appointment as associate professor or full professor will require that candidate's credentials meet criteria for rank established by UW School of Medicine and Public Health Guidelines.

Position Summary:

The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health seeks a dynamic and innovative surgeon to lead a new Division of Acute Care and Regional General Surgery. This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished and visionary leader to transition an existing group of general and acute care surgeons within the Division of General Surgery into a distinct division with direct reporting to the Department Chair. The Department of Surgery consists of more than 120 faculty across seven specialty divisions (Cardiothoracic, General, Otolaryngology, Pediatric, Plastic and Reconstructive, Transplant, and Vascular) performing more than 25,000 operations annually. Operative services are provided at seven locations in Madison and four locations in Rockford, IL. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding.
