Degree and area of specialization:

A bachelor's degree in science, engineering, research or safety related field is required.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of 2 years of experience in Industrial hygiene experience involving containment system testing and design, chemical exposure monitoring, and health risk evaluation desired.

License or Certificate:

A field-related certification (e.g., NSF, USP, NEBB, ISO, and IEST) must be earned within 5 years of employment through professional development.

Position Summary:

This position, under the direction of the Engineering and Technical Services Assistant Director, provides the technical expertise to support the design, certification, maintenance and safe operation of the specialized systems required in research laboratories. This position will work extensively and collaboratively with principal investigators throughout campus as well as with faculty, staff and students. In addition, this position will work with colleagues in the Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) unit in University Health Services, and support the work of coworkers in Facilities Planning and Management, including Environment, Health and Safety.

Additional Information:

- Knowledge of codes and standards including Wisconsin Administrative Codes and applicable NIH, CDC, USDA, NFPA, ASHRAE, NSF-49, USP 797, ANSI, ASME standards, etc.
- Ability to maintain a professional and service-oriented relationship with customers and co-workers.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff and students and negotiate and problem solve with multiple constituencies.
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to organize and present information in a logical manner is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills are critical.
- Must possess a valid WI State driver?s license (can be obtained within two months of employment if the incumbent is from out-of-State).
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Must be able to climb ladders and easily move about in confined areas.
- Must be able to be certified to wear respiratory protection and other necessary personal protective equipment.
- A Criminal Background Check is required.
