Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a field that is directly relevant to the role is required.

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Student Affairs/Counseling, or a related field is strongly preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:


1. Minimum two years' experience as a DSO, ARO and international student adviser.
2. Proficiency in SEVIS RTI, batch processing, and compliance software.
3. Demonstrated experience and leadership in designing and delivering co-curricular programs for international students.
4. Supervisory experience.
5. Ability to work independently using discretion and knowledge of confidentiality laws.
6. Ability to work effectively with individuals from varied administrative, academic, cultural, religious, national, ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.
7. Meticulous attention to detail and ability to manage complex multi-task projects.
8. Strong oral and written communication skills.
9. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
10. Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, evaluate, and summarize data.
11. Superior customer service, interpersonal, and communication capabilities.
12. Excellent organizational skills including an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities, to define problems, propose and implement effective solutions, and re-prioritize often competing priorities.


1. Experience with teaching, mentoring programs, and public speaking/presentations related to international students.
2. Knowledge of one or more languages in addition to English.
3. Demonstrated success with innovative/thoughtful co-curricular programming.
4. Experience living, studying, or working outside the United States.
5. Demonstrated leadership and/or contributions to professional organizations such as NAFSA.

License or Certificate:

Individuals hired must be eligible to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for UW-Madison. To serve in these roles, it is required you must either be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States.

Position Summary:

UW-Madison invites qualified individuals to apply for a full-time position as an Assistant Director for International Student Engagement (Student Services Coordinator) with International Student Services (ISS). The Assistant Director for International Student Engagement will assist the Director of ISS with oversight and management of intercultural, co-curricular programs related to F and J visa students. Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO). Monitor data and report events in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) with minimal supervision. Inform, advise, educate, train, and supervise students and campus partners/advisers as appropriate. Apply student development theory and practice to educate and empower international students. The incumbent will be a strong collaborator who has a commitment and passion for international and co-curricular education. This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean/ Director of ISS.
