Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree required. Degree in public health, public policy, political science, sociology, or a related field desired. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Ideal candidate must have 3-5 years of public policy experience, working on cancer or health related policy is preferred. Knowledge and experience with state level policy analysis, working with legislators, and other policy makers, and as well as working with volunteers on grassroots organizing is required. Leadership/facilitation experience with a membership voluntary organization, especially committee work and group facilitation are important assets to the position. Experience with health policy agenda development and implementation, health systems work, collaborative partnerships, media campaigns and/or public relations are preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with others, both internally and externally, is necessary for the position.
Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience. A minimum of 7 years' experience is required for appointment at the senior level.

Position Summary:

This position will serve as the Policy Coordinator for the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (WI CCC Program). With this position, The Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (WCCCP) will continue to implement policy, systems and environmental (PSE) cancer control interventions, working with its member organization, the Wisconsin Cancer Council and its policy committee. The WI CCC Program brings together statewide partners that address the whole continuum of cancer control in Wisconsin including prevention, screening, treatment, survivorship and palliative care and priority cross-cutting issues, including policy, systems and environmental changes, access to care and health disparities. The Policy Coordinator will be supervised by the WI CCC Program Director and join a highly functional and supportive team, working together to decrease the burden of cancer in Wisconsin for everyone.

Additional Information:

The vision of the WI CCC Program was created through a unique partnership model between UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) and the Wisconsin Division of Public Health. These partners have collaborated to develop and implement cancer control projects through the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan. The WI CCC Program staffs and facilitates the WI Cancer Council, a coalition of diverse partners that develop and implement the state's comprehensive cancer control framework, the WI CCC Plan.
A strong candidate will demonstrate organizational and critical thinking skills with the ability to work independently as well as work within a team. Strong oral and written communication skills with experience in explaining policy related issues is required. Knowledge of common Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Power Point) is essential.
Some statewide and national travel required. Must provide own transportation or a valid driver's license and eligibility for Car Fleet usage is necessary.
A criminal background check will be conducted prior to hiring.
