Depending on Qualifications

Degree and area of specialization:

PhD in Education, Learning Sciences, Learning Games, Computer Science, Statistics, or other related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

- Ability to analyze data to discover potential extractable statistical outcomes
- Ability to process data in a known analysis tool such as R
- Ability to generate visualization of extracted outcomes
- Ability to work with data sources in multiple formats (JSON, CSV)
- General understanding of how to query data from web based sources in R
- General familiarity with both SQL and NOSQL database structures
- General familiarity with video games and comfort playing them to tease out additional data points of interest

Position Summary:

The researcher will work with WCER projects to process telemetry data collected across multiple users and multiple games, looking for interesting patterns that highlight both learning (or non-learning), and results of the user experience of the games from an interface/interaction standpoint. The data is collected and retrievable through a custom data collection system with an external web/REST interface. The ideal candidate will work within a team setting, as well as autonomously. The candidate will be self-directed, highly competent and technically proficient with a passion for game-based learning, learning science research, and the ability to design and develop research studies.
