Degree and area of specialization:

Ph.D. in structural biology or a related field.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of five (5) years' relevant research experience in and extensive knowledge of electron microscopy (EM) and/or cryo-electron microscopy. Title prefix is dependent on relevant experience.

The incumbent will have peer recognition on the basis of research accomplishment in the field.

The successful applicant must have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, excellent management skills, teach effectively and provide support to research staff, an ability to work independently, and extensive knowledge of the operation and management of cryo-electron microscopes/equipment to troubleshoot and fix minor problems and to efficiently coordinate maintenance and repair with service personnel in a timely manner.

Position Summary:

The Cryo-EM Research Center in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, seeks to hire an experienced scientist as the Operations and Technical Manager. The Center will house a Titan Krios and a Talos Arctica (both instruments equipped with the Falcon III detector, the Gatan Bioquantum K3 energy filter-detector combination, and Volta phase plate system); a Talos 120 kV TEM; and an Aquilos cryo-Dual Beam system. A cryo-CLEM microscope for correlative microscopy pipelines will be available. Ancillary specimen preparation equipment is in place.

The Operations and Technical Manager will report directly to the Cryo-EM Research Center Director and will be responsible for overseeing all operations and technical support.
