Opportunity to participate in a long-term population and habitat ecology study of the California Spotted Owl in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Employee will conduct surveys for California spotted and barred owls, re-sight color bands, assess owl reproductive status, locate nest trees, assist in banding owls, locate owls using telemetry equipment, conduct vegetation surveys, and care for all equipment and vehicles. Position will begin in spring and last through August 17, 2018.

The Binaural Hearing and Speech Laboratory at the Waisman Center, is looking for a talented individual to provide research assistance to staff, students and researchers. This position will be responsible for writing software for data collection and analysis, in particular for SR Research Eyelink and Optitrack hardware systems. This position will also perform some aspects of digital signal processing and calibration, perform some hardware modifications, and assist with the development of web server/client applications and app development for remote data collection.

The successful candidate will work in the Hittinger Lab (hittinger.genetics.wisc.edu) as part of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (glbrc.org), one of four centers funded by the US Department of Energy to perform basic research to understand and overcome the challenges of producing specialty biofuels from bioenergy crops. The successful candidate will collaborate with other researchers in the lab and center to apply evolutionary and synthetic biology approaches to mine yeast biodiversity for bioengineering solutions.

This position functions under close progressing to limited supervision of the Chemist Supervisor and will provide sample preparation and analytical support for a wide variety of analyses for environmental contaminates in air, water, soil, sediment and other environmental matrices. Responsibilities may include participating in the analysis of PCBs, pesticides, total organic carbon, volatiles, gravimetric determination and other environmental analyses. The Farm and Industry Short Course (FISC) is a 16-week educational program designed to prepare students for careers in agriculture. The program is operated by the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has been offered each winter since 1885. The curriculum covers crops, dairy, meat animals, soils, farm equipment, finance, management, marketing, and more, and is taught by CALS faculty and staff, and by ad hoc instructors hired specifically to support the program. FISC operates two residence halls (Humphrey and Jorns Halls) that house the majority of the students enrolled in the program; the residence halls operate as a short-term housing option when FISC is not in session. The Director is responsible for oversight of all aspects of operating this revenue-generating program, including marketing, recruitment, admissions, curricula, academic policies, advising, commencement, facilities, budget, alumni relations, fundraising, personnel supervision, and strategic planning.
