The Farm and Industry Short Course (FISC) is a 16-week educational program designed to prepare students for careers in agriculture. The program is operated by the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has been offered each winter since 1885. The curriculum covers crops, dairy, meat animals, soils, farm equipment, finance, management, marketing, and more, and is taught by CALS faculty and staff, and by ad hoc instructors hired specifically to support the program. FISC operates two residence halls (Humphrey and Jorns Halls) that house the majority of the students enrolled in the program; the residence halls operate as a short-term housing option when FISC is not in session. The Director is responsible for oversight of all aspects of operating this revenue-generating program, including marketing, recruitment, admissions, curricula, academic policies, advising, commencement, facilities, budget, alumni relations, fundraising, personnel supervision, and strategic planning.
