ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, PROFESSOR SMPH/NEURO SURG/NEURO SURG Madison
The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health seeks a research oriented brain tumor neurosurgeon to join our program at UW Hospitals, VA Hospital and UW Health clinics. The position includes opportunities for clinical, research and teaching activities in an academic environment collaborating with neurosurgeons and faculty in radiation and medical oncology, neuroradiology, neuropsychology and basic science departments. The successful candidate will take a leadership role in clinical and research neuro-oncology. Clinical activities will involve surgery, outpatient clinics and attending service on neurosurgery inpatient and consult services at University of Wisconsin Hospitals, the VA Hospital, community hospitals and clinics. Research duties include developing an independent, extramurally funded research program in tumor neurosurgery in collaboration with faculty in the Carbone Cancer Center and other departments. Teach and mentor undergraduate, medical student, graduate student, fellows and residents. Participate in regional education programs for community physicians as well as participate and help develop plan to expand tumor neurosurgery clinical program. As part of a campus-wide cluster hiring initiative (https://facstaff.provost.wisc.edu/cluster-hiring-initiative/), the Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison), in collaboration with several key academic departments, seeks to hire three new tenure-track faculty members, with expertise and interests in functional genetics/genomics of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) across the lifespan. One of the three positions is a biostatistician/bioinformatician with a focus on developing both computational and statistical strategies to identify risk genes and/or gene networks for neurodevelopmental or neurodegenerative diseases. Whereas the ultimate tenure home will be determined at the time of hire based on the selected candidate's qualifications and interests, a key partner in this hire and likely tenure home is the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics. The Waisman Center (www.waisman.wisc.edu) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is an interdisciplinary research center internationally recognized for its pioneering contributions to the understanding of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs). The center supports interdisciplinary research of 63 faculty from 24 academic departments across 8 schools/colleges spanning biochemical, molecular, cell biological, animal model, human and animal brain imaging, and human cognitive and behavioral analyses. It also hosts an array of clinics specialized in various IDDs with > 2,800 unique patients per year. The Waisman Center is home to an Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC), a University Center for Excellence in Development Disabilities (UCEDD), and a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities and Related Disorders (LEND) programs, all federally-designated. The Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics is home to internationally-recognized faculty engaged in both collaborative and methodological research who flourish in the university's deep culture of collaborative interdisciplinary science. Faculty areas of expertise include biostatistics applied to pre-clinical, clinical and population health research; biomedical and clinical informatics; and statistical genetics and genomics. As part of its scholarly missions, the Department serves as a resource for investigators in the basic, clinical, and population health sciences, including genetics and genomics. Department faculty and staff collaborate in the design, conduct, and analyses of laboratory, clinical, epidemiologic, health services, and genetic studies with scientists and clinicians from departments and centers across the UW campus and the state. These include the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, the UW Carbone Cancer Center, and the Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation.
