Position Summary:

The successful candidate will work within the UW-Madison General Library System's Shared Development Group to develop applications and workflows in support of the management and preservation of digital collections objects, including texts, media, and associated metadata. The developer will participate in requirements gathering and application design teams and will contribute to architectural design discussions.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required Experience:
1. Experience in application programming.
2. Experience working in a UNIX/Linux environment.
3. Effective interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Experience:
1. Experience with Ruby, Rails, and Javascript.
2. Experience working collaboratively in diverse groups with technical colleagues.
3. Experience with Java desired.
4. Experience with and competency desired in:
- full life cycle front end application development;
- developing web applications that integrate with backend system APIs;
- developing secure applications.

Additional Information:

The Shared Development Group comprises 8 developers who build and support library applications that range from search, browse and delivery tools for library resources, to integrations with campus enterprise systems, to digital resources management and preservation workflows. We work closely with a team of system administrators who support our production and development environments.

We offer a flexible work environment that is notable for its culture of excellent service to our patron communities both within and beyond the University.

The offices of the Shared Development Group are located in Memorial Library at the foot of State Street in Madison. During the pandemic our group has been working remotely and we expect to continue to be remote through the spring semester. The incumbent can continue to work remotely after we return to campus and is not required to relocate to the Madison area.
