Position Summary:

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Agricultural Research Stations operates a robust greenhouse research complex to provide key services to the principal investigators of the UW Madison. The mission of these greenhouse spaces is to provide quality plant growing space for research and instruction. The centralized greenhouse system strives to maximize the utilization and efficiency of all greenhouse space to serve as many principal investigators as possible. The incumbent in this position will oversee the management of Greenhouse operations in these facilities:
-Walnut Street Greenhouses: A 15,000 square foot facility with 72 individual houses of varying sizes. Sixty five percent of these greenhouses offer air-conditioned/climate controlled research space. Additionally, this complex has 53 outdoor cold frames the offer an additional 3800 square feet dedicated to plant research.
-Soils (King Hall) Greenhouse Complex: Four glass greenhouses comprising 2000 square feet. These facilities are air conditioned.
-West Madison Greenhouses: Located at the West Madison research station, these two greenhouse structures providing 8000 square feet of research greenhouse space.
-Allocated storage and support spaces in the Old Dairy Barn and stock pavilion

The Greenhouse Manager has responsibility for the planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities associated with the above facilities. The Manager serves as the key point of contact for the 250 faculty, research support staff, and students that are conducting work in the facilities at any one time.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelors degree required, Masters Degree Preferred

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-Minimum three years experience working in a greenhouse management role.
-Knowledge of how to utilize computer and IT resources is essential for success in this position.

License or Certificate:

-Driver's License that meets UW Risk Management Standards
-Hold or ability to obtain a valid Wisconsin pesticide applicator license

Additional Information:

-Ability to lift 50 lbs.
-Ability to stand and walk on concrete surface for majority of working day.
-A Criminal Background Check (CBC) will be conducted.
-A period of probation will be required.
-Hours are Monday to Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm. Occasional weekend work may be required.
