Job Summary:

Successful candidates for this Assistant Professor position will demonstrate evidence of an emerging national/international performing career in oboe as well as in an additional area of music expertise or study such as, but not limited to, music production, musician wellness, music business and entrepreneurship. Preference will be given to candidates who have previous college-level teaching experience.

The candidate's principal responsibilities will be to:

1. Recruit and teach a diverse studio of 8-10 oboe students (undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels, including Music Performance and Music Education majors and double majors), lead a weekly studio class, recruit students to maintain an appropriate studio size, teach the oboe fundamentals class to Music Education students, and coach chamber music;
2. Teach courses in additional area of music specialization;
3. Rehearse and perform on average 20 concerts on and off campus per year with the School's Wingra Wind Quintet faculty ensemble;
4. Carry out creative scholarship appropriate to a tenure-track position;
5. Contribute vigorously to the School's educational, research, and engagement missions; participate in graduate degree committees; collaborate in the ongoing work of Mead Witter School of Music; and carry out leadership and service within the School, College and University.
6. Demonstrate the School's commitment to collaboration, innovation, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Master's Degree
in music or related field by date of appointment

Terminal Degree
D.M.A. or Ph.D in music or related field


Previous professional performance experience as an oboist.
Evidence of competence and pedagogical skills in an additional area of music specialization.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
Evidence of previous successful teaching experience at the university level preferred.
