Job Summary:

The Department of Biochemistry ( at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a new faculty position to build on its strength in biochemical research. This position is central to our multi-year hiring plan in the broad topic areas of in vivo biochemistry, imaging, and complex biosystems. The successful applicant will be expected to create an ambitious, internationally recognized, well-funded research programs while furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the sciences.

The Department provides outstanding support and a stimulating research environment within the highly collaborative research community at UW-Madison. The successful applicant will join a dynamic faculty with broad interests in the biochemical sciences, including but not limited to nucleic acids, systems and synthetic biology, and chemical biology. The scientific environment at UW-Madison is enhanced by state-of-the-art facilities for high-throughput sequencing, computation, microscopy, cryo-EM, NMR, mass spectrometry, crystallography, animal care, and small-molecule screening.

The position is an academic (9-month) tenure-track (junior) or tenured (mid-career or senior) faculty position. It carries a commitment to the three important functions of instruction, research, and outreach, as well as professional and university service as appropriate to faculty rank.


Principle duties to include:

1) Build an ambitious and independent, imaginative research program that complements the Department's strengths in cutting-edge biochemical research.

2) Interact effectively with colleagues within the department and across campus.

3) Teach in the UW-Biochemistry undergraduate and graduate curriculum. Provide support for education within graduate programs.

4) Contribute to programs aimed at increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department and university. Promote an inclusive and diverse climate within our campus and associated communities.

5) Contribute to faculty governance and participate in outreach through university and professional service.

Terminal Degree
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Biochemistry or related field.


We are searching for exceptional, collaborative scientists performing research at the emerging frontiers of biochemistry. This faculty position is a tenure-track (junior) or tenured (mid-career or senior) position.

We seek faculty who actively engage in promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion; innovative teaching; cutting-edge research; and service. Candidates who can contribute to these goals are encouraged to identify their strengths and experiences in these areas. Candidates for a tenured position must possess a sustained record of professional achievement as indicated by outstanding research and publications, teaching, and other activities.

Viable candidates will demonstrate a record of or potential for 1) individual and collaborative extramural grantsmanship with publications in impactful journals; 2) teaching and educational support; and 3) contribution to outreach, extension and service functions of the Department, College, University and professional societies.

We encourage applicants of any rank. At the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, the candidate's qualifications must be sufficient to meet the requirements for tenure in the Department of Biochemistry, in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
