Job Summary:

Note: This position will provide a hybrid of in-person and virtual services. Some work may be performed remotely at an off-site, non-campus location.

Under the supervision of a member of the Mental Health Services Leadership Team, the Health Profession Mental Health Provider (Student of Color Focus)/Generalist Clinician will provide a hybrid of clinical services to UW-Madison students. This provider will spend 50% of their time in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), with a special emphasis on working with students of color, and 50% of their time serving the general student population of UW-Madison and/or students of color outside of SMPH. Principal duties include:

Direct Clinical Service (65%):
1)Provides individual and group therapy services to students, specializing in students of color in
SMPH and the student population presenting at University Health Services (UHS);
2)Provides drop-in consultation services to SMPH students;
3)Provides outreach services including programming, consultations, and trainings, with an emphasis on students of color in SMPH;
4)Participates in the provision of clinical crisis services and on call mental health services (during business hours);
5)Responds to campus crises;
6)Demonstrates a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented and underserved populations.

Administrative Duties (35%)
1)Maintains accurate and timely documentation for all clinical interactions and clinical consultations; 2)Participates in the development and implementation of programs and services related to mental health/wellness at SMPH.
3)Collaborates with providers and staff at UHS, SMPH, and with campus partners.
4)Follows agency policies and procedures consistent with state mental health statutes, ethical guidelines, best practices, HIPAA, and FERPA;
5)Attends staff and workgroup meetings;
6)Attends MHS sponsored professional development activities;
7)As resources allow, represents UHS on the UW-Madison Campus, in the Madison community, and with local, regional, and national professional organizations; and 8)Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities: Provides direct clinical services to patients and clients in a clinical, research, education, or public health and safety setting. Engages in the full range of psychological services including assessment (psycho-diagnostic and psychological assessment services), evaluation, consultation and/or psychotherapy to promote the mental health and well-being of patients.
  • 10% Performs patient psycho-diagnostic, psychological assessments and evaluations
  • 10% Identifies patient psychological disorders and emotional patterns to understand and predict behavior
  • 5% Assesses safety risks and develops safety plans for at-risk individuals
  • 50% Develops, implements, and monitors individual and group psychological treatment programs with clinical staff and physicians
  • 20% Completes clinical treatment reports in accordance with department and agency guidelines
  • 5% May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students

Terminal Degree
Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology


Strongly preferred work experiences/qualities of the candidate include:
1)Demonstrated ability to provide clinical services, consultation and outreach to diverse undergraduate, graduate and/or professional students in a college health setting
2)Experience in consultation and collaboration with campus or community partners and provision of campus-based services/outreach
3)Ability to effectively serve individuals with diverse social identities and life experiences, with demonstrated interest and experience in serving clients of color
4)Demonstrated attentiveness to intersectionality & health disparities, and commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented populations
5)Experience participating in multidisciplinary teams including health profession and academic faculty/staff
6)Experience in adult mental health crisis assessment, brief intervention, and confidentiality requirements
7)Experience in supervision of trainees
8)Excellent oral and written communication skills


PSY - Psychologist - State Licensure
