The Associate Dean for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (AD-HEDI) will advance innovation in the vitally important areas of health equity, diversity, and inclusion across the School of Nursing's (SoN's) academic mission and research enterprise, including the substantial internal and external communities of interest (i.e. faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community partners). The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker and collaborative leader who guides how these ideals are integrated within and throughout the SoN using evidence-based, culturally competent approaches. This position reports to the Dean and serves as a member of the Dean's Executive Leadership Team, which is responsible for the development and implementation of the School's strategic direction.
The AD-HEDI will be responsible for leading a unified, school-wide strategic action plan that builds on the SoN central pillar of inclusive excellence, leveraging existing efforts, identifying gaps and opportunities, and developing new strategies to strengthen equity, inclusivity, and belonging across and among diverse populations. The AD-HEDI will serve as an evidence-based subject matter expert in health equity and disparities, inclusion and belonging, and inclusive teaching and research practices, representing the SoN on key initiatives across campus and beyond.
||Leads the development and implementation of proactive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in support of the division's strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where all have an opportunity to succeed.
- 20% Serves as a liaison between the division and enforcement agencies and represents the division to the external community, organizations, and agencies
- 20% Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes divisional objectives to ensure appropriate allocation of resources
- 20% Partners with institutional leaders, faculty, students, staff, and internal and external constituency groups to ensure programming supports the division's values and strategic goals and assesses and monitors program effectiveness
- 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- 10% Develops and audits the unit budget, monitors financial activities for grant funding
- 5% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and diversity objectives
- 10% Develops and supports ongoing learning and professional development that promotes practices which ensure inclusive and individualized strategies for students and employees
- 10% Leads and collaborates with key partners to obtain external funding to support diversity and inclusion initiatives
- Provide leadership for faculty/staff/students to develop/implement strategic initiatives that promote the SoN and UW-Madison's mission for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Serve in an ex-officio capacity on SoN governance committees.
- Review and develop policies/procedures/programs that support a diverse and inclusive community for faculty/staff/students. Provide networking/collaborative opportunities for faculty/staff/students around the areas of HEDI and belonging.
- Serve as a content expert in the articulation of the SoN's commitment to achieving inclusive excellence and promoting cultural competence and sensitivity in communication practices, messaging, and infrastructure.
- Oversee, design, and implement educational, training, and coaching programs for faculty, staff, and students to build capacity and skills related to inclusive excellence.
- Use evidence-based strategies and subject expertise to serve as a collaborative consultant to School leaders, faculty, and staff.
- Utilize organizational change models to develop a plan to further advance the School's inclusive excellence plan to embed diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging values into all aspects of the School's operations.
- Collaborate with School leadership and partners to create/support an inclusive, healthy working and learning environment that builds community.
- Collaborate with Assoc Deans to establish/evaluate the strategic direction for high quality professional development on diversity-related topics (i.e. inclusive teaching/student learning, student/employee climate, implicit bias, cultural competency).
- Partner with the School's academic leaders to develop and maintain robust initiatives to enhance recruitment of students, faculty, and staff from diverse and/or underrepresented populations and to promote their academic and professional success.
- Oversee the infrastructure for health equity, diversity, and inclusion, including the supervision of the Diversity and Inclusion Officer and additional positions that may be added in the future.
- Manage the budget and fiscal resources allocated to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. Supervise the development, implementation, and evaluation of DEI initiatives and outcomes.
- Identify, build, manage, and evaluate relationships and collaborative opportunities with internal and external communities to enhance school and campus partnerships, and to ensure initiatives are strategically aligned.
- Develop evaluation methodology, including success metrics to ensure value and quality, tracking, and monitoring of program/initiative effectiveness.
- Oversee and deliver comprehensive progress reports, annual reports, and other documents illustrating the implementation and outcomes of diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- Exhibit exemplary stewardship of existing resources and lead efforts to obtain new revenue streams to build and sustain effective diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the SoN.

Nursing, health care, or related field required
* More than 6 years of relevant work experience required, with increasing responsibility and demonstrated leadership in health care and higher education
* Proven ability to successfully develop, implement, and evaluate health equity, disparities, diversity, and inclusion programs/initiatives within an academic environment and research enterprise
* Proven ability to articulate a mission, vision, and related plan based on the unique needs of an institution or organization
* Excelled interpersonal and oral/written communication skills are required, with an open communication style the fosters trust, credibility, and understanding
* Ability to navigate complex academic and health care communities, building bridges and strong collaborative relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders
* Supervisory experience and demonstrated ability to interact and influence at all levels of an organization and to work collaboratively across functions and areas toward shared objectives
* Grant writing, proposal development, and data reporting experience is preferred
* Ability to:
- Build consensus, cultivate collaborative teams, and integrate multiple initiatives;
- Facilitate dialogue on sensitive topics/difficult issues in a complex and diverse environment; and
- Develop, implement, administer, and evaluate high impact practices that foster programmatic success.
