Job Summary:

Web Platforms/Services is a group in the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. We provide enterprise-scale services that enable the creation of standards-based websites, web applications, and digital experiences for a wide variety of stakeholders at UW-Madison and across UW System campuses as well as some other higher education campuses in the nation.

The Opportunity:
The Web Platforms/Services Associate Director is responsible for the strategy, team, and outcomes for a large and diverse group and portfolio of services. The team today is comprised of 30+ professional staff who are focused on end-to-end service delivery for highly used, enterprise-scale IT services. There are two managers who work within the team to directly lead staff and supervise day to day projects and operations.

The Associate Director will work closely with Service Leads and Managers to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services that meet high standards of operational excellence. This position will offer the opportunity to draw on individual strengths to provide group leadership across Web Platforms/Services and the broader Application Infrastructure Services Department.

Duties include:
-Strategic planning in a highly distributed IT environment
-Sponsorship of high profile IT initiatives
-Mentoring & coaching managers and Service Owners to build strong teams
-Serving as the liaison for internal and external stakeholders for the team's portfolio of services
-Leading the ongoing development and curation of a positive team culture
-Responsibility for team goals and outcomes

Responsibilities: Develops and directs the implementation of strategic plans for enterprise information technology (IT) function(s), program(s), or service(s) to ensure resources are utilized to provide effective administrative, research, outreach, and/or instructional information technology services. May directly manage IT services.
  • 20% Directs strategic information technology planning initiatives and establishes objectives for the institution to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, staffing resources in alignment with the strategic plan
  • 10% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
  • 15% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% May develop and audit institutional budgets and/or financials
  • 10% Serves as a liaison representing the interests of the institution to internal and external stakeholders
  • 15% Advises institutional or divisional leadership on information technology operations and business models
  • 10% Manage and maintain service levels. Establish measures of service success such as benchmarks, key performance indicators (KPIs) and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs). Oversee a program of continuous improvement for all services
  • 5% Responsible for the successful implementation and management of projects at the group, department, and enterprise level
  • 5% Leads, guides and supports the design and implementation of targeted change strategies

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
-Formal and successful management experience supervising and developing professional employees.
-Leadership experience delivering client-centered services, including organizational change leadership to improve processes and better support staff and customers, and the ability to exercise influence, build effective and positive partnerships and achieve consensus.
-Ability to successfully communicate with senior or executive-level audiences on complex information, including excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills to publicly represent a technical service.
-Experience building and setting a vision for a team and/or service(s) while managing ongoing service delivery and operations.
-Demonstrated commitment to improving equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications
-Ability to independently initiate programs and practices that promote a positive team culture, employee engagement, and/or high quality service outcomes.
-Demonstrated experience taking initiative and ownership.
-Experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines, and managing partner and stakeholder expectations including the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders, engineers, and leadership regarding goals, service roadmap, and prioritization (preferably in an IT background)

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

This position is eligible for any of the following: 100% remote work; partial remote work; or fully on-site. Remote work requires an approved remote work agreement (RWA) agreement. An RWA requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer.

Minimum $125,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
