Position Summary:

This position provides fiscal management for the Department of Integrative Biology, under the general supervision of the Department Manager. As the financial team lead, the position involves a variety of accounting and budgeting activities including: monitoring expenditures, reconciling fund balances, interpreting fund requirements and deadlines, projecting financial revenue and cash balances, ensuring expenditures are in line with requirements, and recommending action on various accounting questions. This position also assists the Research Grants Manager with post-award financial activities in the department.

The Department of Integrative Biology consists of 53 faculty and staff members, as well as a large number of post-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate employees. The department has 1,300+ undergraduate majors in Biology (L&S), Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, and Zoology, teaches thousands of students in our introductory biology courses, and has top ranked graduate programs in the areas of Zoology and Freshwater Marine Science. Annually, the department receives funding from multiples sources including General Purchase Revenue (GPR), UW Foundation Gifts, Trust Funds, Federal and private grants.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Accounting or finance degree or equivalent experience in accounting or related role.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required Proficiencies:
-Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
-Knowledge of computer applications, automated data analysis and data entry techniques
-Experience interpreting and analyzing financial data
-Demonstrated computer expertise with a variety of software programs
-Experience preparing financial reports, spreadsheets, and budgets
-Excellent organizational and time management skills

Preferred Proficiencies:
-Knowledge of University, State, Federal and/or Nonfederal rules and regulations
-Familiarity with University systems such as WISDM, JET, e-Reimbursement
-Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
-Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
-Effective communication skills; summarizing and presenting information both verbally and in written format
