Position Summary:

Clinical track faculty at the University of Wisconsin are expected to participate in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, interns and residents, participate in continuing education programs, and conduct basic science or clinical research that advances academic clinical practice. Service responsibilities are expected to the Department, School and University. The successful candidate will participate in the clinical activities of the hospital in the primary care service including patient care, instruction and supervision of veterinary students, interns, and residents. Approximately 25,000 small animal patients are evaluated at UW Veterinary Care annually. The current Primary Care case load is approximately 4,000 cases per year.

Principal Duties:

Duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Up to 26 weeks of clinical service
2. Training and supervision of residents and interns

1. Didactic teaching (total of ~6 lecture hours, approx.)
2. Laboratory course teaching (total of ~6 hours, approx.)

1. Contribute and participate in clinical research in a field of choice

1. Involvement in committees at the Department, School and University level along with involvement
at the professional committee level.
2. Participation in continuing education programs for veterinary practitioners in Wisconsin

Degree and Area of Specialization:

DVM (or equivalent) required; completion of or eligible to sit for ABVP board certification in canine and feline or feline practice

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Minimum of three years in primary care clinical practice. Aptitude and/or experience in clinical instruction of DVM students, interns, and residents are expected. Distribution of effort in the section and the Department will be determined in accordance with service needs, academic priorities and the candidate's expertise and academic goals. The candidate should have strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work cooperatively with all sections of the hospital and department.

License or Certificate:

Eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Wisconsin.

The Department of Medical Sciences of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a clinical track faculty, full-time, 12-month renewable Assistant Professor position within the Small Animal Primary Care Section of the UW Veterinary Care clinical service within the UW Veterinary Care Hospital on the UW-Madison campus.

Extensive opportunities for collaborative research exist within the School of Veterinary Medicine and the UW-Madison campus. The School of Medicine & Public Health, the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and the Biotechnology Center are located within a short distance of the School.
