Position Summary:

The Department of Human Oncology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health seeks a Director of Radiation Oncology Physics. This position will lead and provide UW Radiation Oncology Physics services, oversee and supervise the members of the physics staff, guide future growth of the Radiation Oncology Physics program, teach residents and students, and participate in research.

Principal Duties:

The Department of Human Oncology (DHO) is an interdisciplinary department within the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health with missions of clinical service, research and education. The DHO fosters excellence in state-of-the-art cancer treatment, teaching as well as basic, translational and clinical research. Director will supervise current activities and future growth of the Radiation Oncology Physics program, supervise physics faculty and staff, teach residents and students, play a lead role in facility and technology development and promote educational activities. Director will engage and provide leadership for research activities that promote peer review publication and facilitate intramural and extramural funding support. Director will foster and expand research and education collaborations with other UW Departments and Programs.

The DHO houses over 40 faculty members and 150 total clinical and research staff members. Experience with conventional linear accelerator and tomotherapy systems, MR-guided radiation therapy, brachytherapy with HDR remote after-loaders and unsealed sources, radiation dosimetry measurement, radiotherapy treatment planning systems, four-dimensional and other advanced computed tomography imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and experimental data acquisition and analysis is highly desirable. Proficiency with a broad range of clinical software systems is required, as are excellent leadership and communication skills.

As Director of Radiation Oncology Physics, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading UW Radiation Oncology Physics services, including those at outreach facilities, and for ensuring quality and safety in the delivery of radiation therapy to patients. Director will provide leadership, oversight and supervision to the radiation oncology physics program and members of the physics staff. Director will provide physics leadership to assist the dosimetry staff, as well as provide physics support to UW clinical trial activities. Director will ensure that all required quality assurance, inspections, calibrations and verifications are performed, and maintain compliance with radiation regulations including federal, state, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Programs.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. in Medical Physics or closely related specialty.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Minimum 5 years medical physics experience in an academic healthcare environment, along with demonstrated leadership and management experience.

For appointment or promotion to Associate Professor (CHS) or Professor (CHS) on the Clinical Health Sciences (CHS) faculty track, candidate must meet UW School of Medicine and Public Health requirements for rank per guidelines.

License or Certificate:

Certification by National Board of Radiology or Medical Physics.
