Position Summary:

The School of Social Work seeks candidates for an opening at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) level. The successful candidate must be committed to excellence in scholarly research, teaching, and outreach activities. Candidates will be expected to establish a state-of-the-art research program, teach students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and perform School of Social Work, university, professional, and community service as appropriate.

Principal Duties:

Principal duties include establishing a state-of-the-art research program, teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the School of Social Work, the university, and the profession. The successful candidate will work to proactively support the expansion of diversity among all components of the School, and ensure an inclusive, fair, and equitable environment that fosters engagement.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. required in Social Work or a related field by the start of the appointment.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

An ability to teach in all program levels (i.e., undergraduate, master's, doctoral) is required. Prior teaching experience preferred.
Applicants should show evidence of the potential to achieve excellence in scholarly research in any area of specialization relevant to social work. Applicants should show evidence of the potential of or demonstrated excellence in teaching.

The School of Social Work is comprised of faculty and staff who work collaboratively to provide a high quality education and professional growth experiences for students. The School has several educational programs, and candidates will be expected to teach courses in social work across these programs. We are committed to providing a strong generalist orientation for BSW and first-year MSW students. We provide an advanced generalist focus with the second year MSW students to further advance their knowledge, skills, and professional integrity in generalist practice and allow for several areas of focus. We are committed to a very high-quality PhD program in social welfare and also to an undergraduate major in social welfare (a BA, different from our BSW). The School values the many strengths that diversity brings to our profession, and is committed to contributing to the diversification of the social work profession.
