Position Summary:

The Research Specialist will be a member of Dr. Randy Brown's research team, working directly with study team members and research subjects, and will be supervised by a Program Manager. Current projects include human subjects research involving patients with diagnoses such as opioid use disorder, major depressive disorder, and post traumatic stress disorder. Projects include both industry-sponsored clinical trials and Investigator-initiated trials. Some projects may involve the use of novel, investigational treatments.

The Research Specialist will primarily be responsible for scheduling and conducting study visits, data collection, and follow up with study participants.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Minimum of BA / BS required.
Degree and/or experience in the following areas strongly preferred: clinical research, psychology, substance abuse treatment, social work or health care.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- A minimum of 12 months in human subjects, health services, and/or clinical trial research, preferably with mental health/substance disorder or related focus
- Experience with and demonstrated ability to read, understand, and follow a scientific protocol
-Strong knowledge of computer fundamentals, including Word programs
-Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are very important, given that research role includes discussing sensitive issues with subjects
- Flexibility and willingness to work early mornings, evenings or weekends as needed
- Ability to travel and work at multiple locations around Madison and UW campus. Limited travel to more distant in-state locations may also be requested.
- Ability to adapt to different work environments (office, clinic, hospital)

- Applied experience in Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA), criminal justice system or psychology
- Knowledge base relevant to mental health, addictions, and health services research
- Knowledge of research confidentiality/privacy issues
- Current knowledge/experience of UW regulations and procedures
- Ability to work independently, under remote supervision, using initiative, good judgment, and effective communication

Prefix assignment and salary will be determined by qualifications and years of relevant experience.

A minimum of 7 years' experience is required for appointment at the senior level.

Additional Information:

Travel is required. Must provide own transportation or a valid driver's license and eligibility for Car Fleet usage is necessary.
