Position Summary:

Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery Director

The Meat Science and Animal Biologics Discovery (MSABD) program is seeking a visionary leader for our new and exciting MSABD program. MSABD is a state-of-the-art $53 million investment in a next-generation facility for research, teaching, and outreach related to meat science, food safety, and value-added molecules or materials derived from animal co-products.

The successful candidate will have broad knowledge of the meats industry, established professional networks, and demonstrated leadership. More specifically, this individual must have an aptitude for entrepreneurship, as well as skill in managing the personnel and finances of MSABD.

The successful candidate will contribute effectively to departmental teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, as appropriate. In addition, the candidate will develop, or build upon, a nationally and internationally recognized and  extramurally funded research program in meat science, food safety, animal biologics, or a related discipline.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. from an appropriate discipline.
Must be tenurable as faculty in the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences, College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

This position is required to have a concurrent faculty appointment. To become tenured, the candidate's qualifications must be sufficient to meet the requirement for tenure in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, at the rank of Associate Professor or above.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

More than 10 years of demonstrated leadership in food, agricultural, biomedical, or related fields.
Evidence of having built synergies among interdisciplinary teams, nurturing entrepreneurship, and fostering advances in the aforementioned industry areas is required.

Note:
We anticipate that the role of MSABD Director will occupy the majority of the successful candidate's time in the first one to three years, directing the activities of MSABD, with the balance as (Associate or Full) Professor on research and teaching in their specific area of expertise.

Details regarding the concurrent faculty appointment:
This academic program director appointment is posted at 100% time, on an academic (9-month) basis. However, the appointment percentage split between the MSABD Director appointment and the concurrent faculty appointment will be negotiated with the successful candidate. It is expected that the split will be as follows, for the first one to three years:
Year one: 90% MSABD Director / 10% (Associate or Full) Professor
Years two and three: 70% MSABD Director / 30% (Associate or Full) Professor

As long as the individual serves in the MSABD Director role, summer salary will be provided as follows:
two months of summer salary for the first three years;
one month of summer salary thereafter.
