The University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks to hire a faculty member with research and teaching interests in the statistical aspects of data science foundations. The committee considers this to be a broad research domain with elements that may be algorithmic, computational, mathematical, or informed by substantive subject-matter considerations. This position is part of a campus-wide cluster initiative to expand and broaden expertise in the fundamentals of data science at UW-Madison. Three faculty will be hired in this cluster initiative to join UW-Madison's interdisciplinary group in the mathematical, statistical, and algorithmic foundations of data science. This hiring initiative involves the Departments of Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Sciences, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, and the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. It is anticipated that successful candidates will develop collaborations with existing data science research programs at UW-Madison -- especially with the other faculty hired under this cluster program -- and with external research centers. Responsibilities include conducting research and teaching at all levels required, with service at the professional and university level. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain extramural funding.

Degree and Area of Specialization:
Ph.D. in Statistics or related field.
Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:
Demonstrated excellence for appointment at the tenured level or demonstrated potential for excellence in statistics research. Experience in the statistical aspects of data science foundations is highly desirable. Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in one or more of these areas is preferred. Other desirable attributes include excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact with interdisciplinary and collaborative intellectual community.
