Position Summary:

This position will be responsible for providing support to the Intermediate Care Ward (ICW) of the UW Veterinary Care (UWVC), and will require decision making responsibilities which may affect the outcome/quality of animal life.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Preferred one year experience as a Veterinary Technician, experience with ER work strongly preferred, and experience in triaging cases preferred.

License or Certificate:

Certification as Wisconsin Veterinary Technician or Eligibility to Obtain

Additional Information:

There are a total of 8 vacancies available. Each position will have a specific schedule, which will range from three 12-hour shifts, weekday or weekend overnight shifts, and float shifts between primary care and ICU (see Work Schedule section). Schedules will be determined at time of offer. Schedule may alter as operations and position expectations demand.

Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.

Preferred knowledge and skills:
1. Knowledge of standards for quality animal nursing care and proper procedures associated with small animal patients in critical condition.
2. Knowledge of appropriate medical records management.
3. Knowledge of and ability to maintain and operate equipment utilized in the Emergency and ICW areas.
4. Knowledge of inventory, recordkeeping and billing procedures utilized in the veterinary hospital.
5. Ability to function calmly in stressful, life and death situations.

Float techs work between primary care and ICW on the "float days"
