Position Summary:

This position is in the Communicable Disease Division (CDD) of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH). The employee in this position functions independently within a team of laboratory technicians, data entry specialists, and microbiologists in the Client Services Department under limited supervision. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: delivering customer service to internal and external WSLH customers, fulfilling orders for test kits and packaging/shipping materials, processing human and animal specimens for clinical testing following established WSLH policies and standard operating procedures, maintaining supply inventories, sorting/filing/archiving documents and records.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

- No Degree Required
- AS in Medical Microbiology, Medical Technology, Bacteriology, Biology, or equivalent.
- Ability to meet CLIA Laboratory Testing Personnel Standards is required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

- Medical Terminology, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Virology, and/or Immunology college-level laboratory course work.
- Experience handling and processing of clinical specimens preferred.
- Experience performing data entry in a laboratory information system (LIS), and delivering customer service preferred.
- Public health laboratory experience preferred, but not required.

License or Certificate:

MLA(ASCP), MLT(ASCP) or equivalent preferred.

Additional Information:

Applicants must be available for on-call public health emergencies, and be willing to work as part of a weekend and holiday rotation.

Work Schedule:

7:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday with rotational weekend, holiday and emergency response work is also required

7:45 A.M. to 4:30 P.M Tuesday through Friday, and 6:30 A.M to 12:30 P.M Saturday, with holiday and emergency response work also required
