Position Summary:

The La Follette School is highly ranked among graduate degree public policy programs and enjoys a worldwide reputation for research and teaching. Its outreach activities - conferences, symposia, classes, seminars, and programs - bring together policy professionals, academics, students, and government leaders - all under the auspices of the Wisconsin Idea.

The Public Affairs Outreach Specialist will assist with planning and implementing outreach activities, including, but not limited to: virtual events, public conferences on high-interest policy topics, public and academic research events, alumni engagement, legislative trainings, symposia, seminars, and partnerships with nonpartisan organizations and campus partners; and by coordinating event logistics such as virtual platforms and facilitation, venue reservations, catering, registration, signage, handouts, and other details.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

At least one year of experience in event planning and promotion.

Required Skills:
- Experience planning and promoting events
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with diverse audiences
- Ability to maintain a nonpartisan perspective at all times
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple priorities, demonstrate effective time-management and organizational skills, and proactively problem-solve
- Ability to work collaboratively with other La Follette School staff members and campus partners
- Computer literacy with knowledge of a wide range of software, specifically Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Skills:
- Experience planning and promoting virtual events
- Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate outreach programs
- Experience working with or for policymakers
- Experience working with faculty
- Research and data analysis skills; including program evaluation skills
