UW-Madison Division of Extension - Bayfield County is hiring an Agricultural Research Assistant (Official Title: Research Gardener) to help implement a series of agricultural research trials. The position is for individuals that enjoy working independently in challenging outdoor conditions. The home office will be in Washburn, WI, but the job duties will require periodic travel throughout Wisconsin.

Degree and Area of Specialization: |
A bachelor's degree in botany, biology, ecology, natural resource management, or a similar major is preferred, but not required

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience: |
- Agricultural experience with site preparation, planting, weeding, and harvesting. - Ability to communicate ideas effectively. - Ability to deal with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds. - Strong organizational skills. - Self-directed and self-motivated with experience working independently with little supervision. - Physically able to do field work including standing for long periods of time, bending, crouching, or kneeling to pull weeds, operating a weed whip, wearing a backpack sprayer weighing 30 lbs, shoveling wood chips, pounding in fence posts with a post pounder, lifting up to 40 lb bags of fertilizer, etc. - An interest in biological research preferred.

Anticipated end date of this position is October 31, 2021 with the possibility of being extended to end as far as two years from the original start date
