Position Summary:

This is a great opportunity for somebody with experience in basic molecular biology techniques, tissue culture, working with the laboratory mouse, and/or laboratory management. The principal investigator (PI) seeks an experienced Research Specialist as they establish their laboratory and grow their research program. The Research Specialist will work with the PI and ultimately with graduate students and post-doctoral researchers in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, focusing on the basic biology underlying hematopoiesis. Personal initiative, independence, strong organizational abilities and enthusiasm for laboratory research are essential.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Required Education:
- BS/BA in Biological Sciences, with a degree or focus on Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required Experience:
- One (1) year of experience in a research laboratory.

Preferred Experience:
- Applicants with research experience in one or more of the following areas are preferred: molecular biology techniques, including cloning, RT-PCR, viral packaging; cell culture and growth of mammalian cells. Experience with mouse colony maintenance is a plus. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, keep a detailed lab notebook, and learn new techniques and train others is especially desired.

Desired Attributes:
- Personal initiative, independence, strong organizational abilities and enthusiasm for laboratory research.

Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience. A minimum of 7 years' experience is required for appointment at the senior level.
