Job Summary:

The HR Representative provides a wide variety of human resources services for the UW-Madison Department of Chemistry. The department is composed of approximately 40 faculty, 90 academic staff and 30 university staff. The department also has over 300 graduate students and nearly 200 postdoctoral, student and honorary appointments.

This position is responsible for all phases of faculty, academic staff, limited staff, post-degree training positions, and university staff positions including recruitment, compensation/titling, onboarding, evaluation, payroll and benefits administration, and termination activities. This position also assists the department administrator in on-going evaluation of division-wide human resource alignment, policy development, implementation of division-level policies, and workforce relations activities. In addition, this position serves as department liaison to the College of Letters and Science and campus offices for human resources, payroll, benefit, and visa issues.

Associate's Degree


At least one year of human resources related experience is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software is required.
Knowledge of University of Wisconsin and UW-Madison policies and procedures is preferred.

The successful incumbent will have the ability to:
-Enter and manage information in web-based software systems.
-Work under pressure and handle time constraints with attention to detail.
-Communicate complex subject matters effectively, both written and verbally, with individuals and groups from a wide range of backgrounds.
-Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information with tact and discretion.
-Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues relating to human resources, immigration, and benefits.
