Job Summary:

This position assists professional veterinary medical personnel in complex anesthesia procedures in support of the daily operational needs of UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). Employees work with both small and large animal patients in Anesthesia with back-up support to the Critical Care Unit. The work involves independent decision-making responsibilities which can affect the quality/outcome of animal life. Initiative and follow through capabilities are essential. Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1) Oversees/coordinates/guides workflow specific to procedures requiring anesthesia.
2) Develops knowledge and responsibility in area of specialization to include: maintenance of special equipment, instructing others in use and care, assisting clinicians and students in procedures.
3) Anticipates needs of clinicians/staff/students in procedures and primary care.
4) Assists in the instruction of professional veterinary students and training of entry level Veterinary Technicians as requested.
5) Contributes/participates in team building by assisting in problem solving activities.

This position is posted at Vet Tech levels 1, 2 and 3. Level is determined by qualifications based on type of prior veterinary tech experience.

To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or awaiting to sit for the CVT exam, or some CVT working experience with no specialization.

To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 2 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.

To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.

License/Certification:

Sign-on Bonus of 5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid quarterly over the first year of employment (Minimum of $1,800+ for Veterinary Technicians).

This position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Work Schedule:

UW Veterinary Care Anesthesia department has multiple CVT openings! Shifts of 8-12 hrs/day generally available Monday-Friday 8am-6:30pm. Work only the hours required during your shift-no more working late! Approximately 2-4 on-call shifts for emergency cases required per month by the department. Overtime plus night and weekend shift differentials for on-call hours worked. On-call pay of $2.25/hr as well as $50 lump sum payment for each emergency case while on-call. Will provide training based on level of experience. Great opportunity for CVT's interested in obtaining VTS in Anesthesia! Join us!
