Job Summary:

The senior associate director for recruitment, outreach, and communications will lead the strategy, coordination, and oversight of the outreach & recruitment and marketing/ communications teams in alignment with the vision of the Director of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment and campus priorities. This position supervises two associate directors and two assistant directors who plan and execute the outreach & recruitment, diversity, global initiatives, and marketing, communications, and events teams. The senior associate director will serve as a member of the senior-level leadership team.

Responsibilities: Plans and provides direction for the administrative operations of the institution to advance program goals and objectives.
  • 40% Recommends, reviews, and directs personnel resource allocation to ensure appropriate utilization of resources
  • 10% Supervises managerial, professional, and support staff of the unit or division and facilitates unit staff developmental opportunities
  • 15% Serves as liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the institution
  • 10% Develops and audits administrative operating reports, budgets, policies, and procedures to comply with regulations, institution policies, and business objectives
  • 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Provides strategic direction that informs regional, national, international & diversity recruitment efforts based on priorities established by the Director of Admissions, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, schools & colleges, & campus leadership
  • 5% DEM is committed to the highest standard of service. This position will be a role model by practicing exemplary, respectful and inclusive behaviors in all interactions. Participation in unit and divisional diversity & inclusion plans are mandatory
  • 5% Oversees the creation and maintenance of strategic communication initiatives for designated audiences and internal stakeholders
Tasks:
  • Collaborate with the senior associate director team to lead office-wide initiatives and directives
  • Facilitate the development of professional staff team members through setting clear job expectations, encouraging ongoing professional development, and completing mid-point and annual reviews
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of long-range recruitment, outreach, and communications strategic plans in alignment with the vision of the Director of Admissions and Recruitment
  • Participate in work groups, committees, and collaborative projects that engage in recruitment, outreach, and communications
  • Serve as a member of the senior administration in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment
  • Support unit team leads in aligning unit goals with office strategic direction
  • Support decision making groups and individuals across unit
  • Support the Director of Admissions and Recruitment in setting strategic direction and developing high level expectations for recruitment, outreach, and communications

--A bachelor's degree is required, as is at least seven years' experience in the field of admissions in higher education, preferably within a large, complex institutional setting
--Experience with developing and carrying out recruitment, outreach, and/or communications within the context of admissions and/or enrollment management
--Supervisory experience
--Project management and/or strategic planning experience

Depending on Qualifications
The expected salary range for this position is $130,000 up to $150,000 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison), the state's public flagship institution of higher learning, seeks an experienced, innovative and collaborative leader to serve as their new senior associate director for recruitment, outreach and communications in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment in the Division of Enrollment Management.

The mission of the Division of Enrollment Management (DEM) is to strategically achieve UW-Madison's enrollment goals and collaborate with campus partners to provide information and services to enhance student success. The Division includes the following offices: Admissions and Recruitment, Student Financial Aid, Registrar, the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab, and the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. Together, these units collectively provide the foundation of support and services for the academic infrastructure throughout the student lifecycle. The division is committed to the highest standard of service for students, colleagues, visitors and other stakeholders. Team members will serve as role models by practicing exemplary, respectful and inclusive behaviors in all of our interactions.

Reporting to the director of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, the senior associate director for recruitment, outreach and communications will provide critical strategic leadership for undergraduate recruitment, outreach, communications and events. This is one of several new positions for the office which were developed as a result of a recently-completed organizational assessment. The assessment was initiated due to exponential increases in applications and increased campus recruitment initiatives. Both factors have significantly strained systems and team members. A reorganization, including this position and several others, were a direct result of this work.

Guided by the vision of the director, this position is responsible for long-term planning of institutional efforts and priorities, working collaboratively to develop and implement sustainable and efficient plans, systems and processes with management team members within their unit, and facilitating collaboration across the office and division, as well as with units/schools/colleges/divisions across campus.

The senior associate director oversees approximately 30 permanent team members and directly supervises two associate directors and two assistant directors who plan and execute the outreach & recruitment, diversity, global initiatives, and marketing, communications and events teams. The senior associate director will serve as a member of the office's executive leadership team. Positions reporting directly to the senior associate director include:
