Job Summary:

The Admissions Counselor will play a key, collaborative role in recruiting highly talented and diverse students and meeting the university's enrollment objectives. The position will be responsible for articulating UW-Madison's message, participating in the holistic application review process, and maintaining communication with prospective students and families through speaking engagements on and off campus, as well as the management of an assigned recruitment territory.

Responsibilities: Plans, develops, coordinates, manages, and executes the recruitment and admissions process in alignment with the institution's strategic goals. Represents the institution to prospective students with a goal of attracting, admitting, and enrolling a talented, diverse student body. May supervise staff and/or lead a program area.
  • 10% Counsels prospective and admitted students on educational planning and career opportunities
  • 45% Reviews, evaluates, and responds to student applications according to established policies and procedures
  • 5% Identifies opportunities for and develops admissions and outreach events
  • 5% Schedules logistics and secures resources for events to promote the Institution
  • 10% Delivers directed admissions program messaging to internal and external audiences
  • 5% Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal and external partnerships focusing on outreach, recruitment, and admission
  • 15% Engages in extensive outreach and recruitment events, representing the university to prospective students
  • 5% DEM is committed to the highest standard of service. This position will be a role model by practicing exemplary, respectful and inclusive behaviors in all interactions. Participation in unit and divisional diversity & inclusion plans are mandatory
Tasks:
  • Manage a recruitment territory, including regional and local travel
  • Assist prospective students and their families with questions pertaining to UW-Madison and the application process in person and virtually
  • Give visit day presentations to prospective students, families and other stakeholders
  • Conduct application review primarily for freshman applicants from your defined territory as well as other regions as assigned
  • Participate in admissions processes and recruitment initiatives as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum years and knowledge/skills/abilities:

--Two years of experience attracting, recruiting, admitting, and enrolling students at a selective institution and/or high-volume admissions office is preferred
--Experience with community-based organizations working with college-going students is preferred
--Knowledge of the UW-Madison community including academic offerings, research and student life is preferred
--Knowledge of the college admission recruitment cycle and best practices in recruiting, admitting, and enrolling students is preferred
--Experience evaluating applications through a selective admission process at a four-year institution is preferred
--Proven experience working with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds
--Strong oral and written communication skills including significant public speaking experience and excellent customer service skills
--Capability to leverage technology including office software applications, database systems, CRM system, etc.
--Demonstrated commitment to data-driven decision-making, including effective analytical skills
--Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a high volume fast-paced office
--Demonstrated attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
--Ability and willingness to travel locally and nationally
--Evening and weekend work may be required during peak times

This position involves travel. A valid driver's license is required to operate a state vehicle. Incumbents must be able to operate a state vehicle or provide his/her own transportation

Additional Information:

The mission of the Division of Enrollment Management (DEM) is to strategically achieve UW-Madison's enrollment goals and collaborate with campus partners to provide information and services to enhance student success. The Division includes the following offices: Admissions and Recruitment, Student Financial Aid, Registrar, the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab, and the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. Together, these units collectively provide the foundation of support and services for the academic infrastructure throughout the student lifecycle.
