Recreation & Wellbeing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a dynamic, energetic, goal-oriented, and innovative leader within the field of higher education and collegiate recreation. The Assistant Director of Operations - Nick is a full-time employee under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Operations. This person is directly responsible for the operational oversight and safety of the Nicholas Recreation Center (Nick). They will supervise one (1) full-time Coordinator of Operations, one (1) professional intern, and approximately twenty (20+) student employees serving in the Rec Well Manager role. This person will indirectly oversee all the hiring, training, and development of approximately 120 additional operations student employees. They are responsible for the creation and oversight of the Nick operations budget. This individual works directly with professional and student staff to plan and coordinate activities and assess problems and develop solutions. Primary hours will be Monday - Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, with the understanding that nights and/or weekends will be required.

Responsibilities: |
Manages a department of recreation that encompasses multiple comprehensive recreation programs. Oversees and performs activities including policy development and enforcement, program development and expansion, participant eligibility, and/or risk management. May supervise staff.
- 40% May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
- 15% Provides leadership and direction regarding programmatic decisions, budgets, and logistics
- 5% Manages applicable software systems for program registration, sport management, and participation data
- 10% Develops and audits the unit budget
- 5% Prepares and analyzes statistical reports, evaluations, participation surveys, and program manuals
- 5% Facilitates the development of new programs and fosters relationships with existing student organizations
- 20% Oversee day-to-day operations at the Nicholas Recreation Center (Nick) including policy, security and emergency response and implementation.

Tasks: |
- Provide leadership and operational management of the Nicholas Recreation Center (Nick)
- Responsible for the supervision, motivation, and mentorship of one (1) full-time Coordinator of Operations, one (1) professional intern, and approximately twenty (20+) student employees serving in the Rec Well Manager role.
- Indirectly oversee the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of approximately 120 operations student employees with a focus on student training, development, and learning.
- Develop and monitor the budget for Nick Operations
- Evaluate and collaborate with staff and campus partners to make changes to create an inclusive and welcoming environment through policies, equipment layouts, and trainings.
- Ensure all recreation facilities operate within required risk management procedures and maintain compliance with UW-Madison standards and national regulations. Follow up with incidents and accidents that occur in each facility.
- Maintain building security and safety through electronic access controls, key management, building surveillance and two-way radio system.
- Work closely with the Facility Services team for the upkeep, cleanliness, maintenance of all activity spaces and equipment, and communication of space closures for facility projects.
- Develop strong working relationships with campus partners such as UWPD, Student Conduct, Dean of Students Office, EH&S, Risk Management, etc.
- Coordinate the purchase, inventory, and maintenance of safety equipment.
- Administrator for Connect 2 Concepts, a facility management software
- Review and evaluate student employee and policy manuals
- Perform other duties as assigned

Education: |
Required Bachelor's Degree in sports, recreation management, physical education, exercise science or related field.
|
Qualifications: |
A minimum of two (2) years professional experience in a recreation management setting is required. If applicable, Graduate Assistantships and/or internships are equivalent to one-year professional experience.
